Yesterday, many volunteers from the Austin Fire Department showed up in the early morning hours to help Operation Blue Santa load approximately 4,500 boxes for delivery to 3,800 families in need in the metropolitan Austin area. It was a chilly morning, and grew colder as the morning progressed, but they never complained and worked as as great team with other volunteers to get cars, trucks and vans loaded and out in a timely manner.
Some brought their kids to experience this massive operation, and with the DJ playing funky Christmas music (James Brown), some of us showed off our dance moves. It was a great experience for all, and I’m so proud of the AFD – their character, humor and teamwork never ceases to amaze me. Merry Christmas.
